The reason that a Smiley Touch does not start (the screen is black) or goes into an on/off loop (the screen turns on and off uncontrollably) is usually that the Smiley Touch does not receive sufficient power. This can be caused by a damaged or loose cable. If the power supply is plugged in before the cables are connected, it can also trigger a safety mechanism that limits the power to the device.
Check cable connections
- Unplug the Smiley Touch from the power supply.
- Check that the tablet is properly connected to the user interface cable. See: How to open Smiley Touch frame.
- Check that the user interface cable is properly connected.
- Check that the cable on the underside of the base plate is properly connected to the power cord. See: How to detach the front cover from leg plate.Note: Newer versions of Smiley Touch with a longer power cord do not have this connection.
- Connect the power cable to the socket.
- Wait for a few minutes to see if a small charging icon appears at the center of the screen. If the icon appears, that means that the device is charging but the battery is empty, and it may take up to 15 minutes for it to power up.
Note: Some models may need to be turned on manually. If an icon does not appear and there is a power button at the back of the Smiley Touch, press the button for 3 seconds and then wait for a few minutes.
Test for a damaged cable
Connect the cable attached to the tablet directly to the power supply. If the Smiley Touch works normally after doing this, contact HappyOrNot Support to get a new cable.
