The more feedback people give you, the better insights you can get, and the best way to ensure continuous feedback is to make sure that the Smileys are optimally placed. Good placement can also prevent misuse.

Here are some things to consider when placing physical Smileys products.

FInding the best place for optimal feedback collection may take some testing, so don't be afraid to try different locations to find the best one.

What do you want to measure?

Decide on the location of the Smileys based on what element of your service you want feedback on. If you're measuring wait times, place the Smileys where people who are waiting will see them. If you want to focus on service or product selection at a certain department, place the Smileys there. And if you just want people to give feedback on your performance in general, the best place is near the exits.

Make sure the Smileys are easily seen and reached

Place the Smileys products near the point of experience, with the Smiley buttons and question sign facing towards people. Consider the flow and behavior of people - put yourself in their shoes and think what would be the easiest way for them to give feedback. When placing a Smiley Touch, make sure that the power cord is safely behind the Smiley Touch and not in the way of people walking by.

Give people privacy

Position the Smileys so that people don’t have to worry about staff or other people seeing what kind of feedback they are leaving. Ensuring the anonymity of feedback encourages people to be more honest. This is especially important when measuring employee experience.

Cover all points of experience

People will most likely give feedback on the latest part of their experience, so the best way to get a comprehensive look at your performance is to ask for feedback at every stage of the customer journey.

NOTE: If you're collecting demographic data, make sure to place the Smiley Touch so that it's facing the customers walking towards it, and that there are no bright lights directly above the Smiley Touch or behind the feedback giver (the light should illuminate their face) and the light in the location is consistent (no flickering or moving lights).
